Our Neighborhood

The Arbor District in Carbondale, Illinois, is notable for its many streets named after trees, as well as by its historic homes and friendly neighborhoods.

It is the heart of this college town. Its diverse populatin includes professors, students, retirees, and young families, from all over the world.

The District includes the nationally designated Historic District along West Walnut Street, and the designated Historic Landmark home of R. Buckminster "Bucky" Fuller, at the corner of Forest and Cherry Streets.

Most blocks in the area between Forest and Poplar Streets on the east and west, and Main and Cherry Streets on the north and south have Block captains and Neighborhood Watch contacts.

A full-service grocery store is located at the corner of Oakland and Main, along with two video stores and a gas station. The central business district lies along Illinois Avenue
